Volunteers

In the past, we have been very lucky at Velmead to be well supported by our families and friends.  We welcome and value help from parents, friends of the school, grandparents and other family members.  Help can be on a regular basis or one-off (to assist with school trips and special events).  Even an hour a week is much appreciated.  You can help in many ways, including in class, the library, creating displays, listening to our children read or sharing a skill – the list is endless and we are always finding new ways where your support can benefit our children.

As part of our strong focus on the safeguarding of pupils, all regular volunteers MUST complete the following documents prior to volunteering, which are all available on our website:

  • Volunteers application form
  • Childcare Disqualification Staff & Volunteer Declaration Form
  • Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 Declaration Form
  • ICT Code of Conduct for Volunteers
  • Privacy Notice for School Volunteers

Once we have received these, we can organise a TEAM VELMEAD INDUCTION, a one-off, training session where we share expectations and information such as the school policy for volunteers, health and safety matters.  We will ask you to bring three forms of identification (passport, driving licence and a utility bill) to this meeting. If you have already completed our induction in a previous year, you do not have to repeat it.  In addition, our volunteers are required to complete a DBS check (unless you already have a Hampshire DBS less than 12 months old).  This is generated after you have completed the induction.

You can let us know at the induction, when you are available to volunteer so that we can match up where you can support the children best.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
