Pupil Premium Allocation 2023 - 2024

2023-2024 – Pupil Premium Allocation – Velmead Junior School

The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers in core learning skills.

The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for children of statutory school age from low-income families who are known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings, to children whose parents are currently or recently were serving in the armed forces and children in care or who have recently left care.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit.  However, we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.  From September 2012 we have been required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium.  This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium and the extra support they receive.

The School’s Governing Body have been kept closely informed over the impact of Pupil Premium spending. For example, the termly Super Learning Report details, the attainment and progress of this vulnerable group.  The issue of Pupil Premium is subject to at least one governors’ monitoring visit report per year and forms part of the annual review of the effectiveness of overall governance.  In partnership with the governing body, the headteacher has disseminated information to all staff.

For the period April 2023 to March 2024 we have been allocated £30,975 from Pupil Premium funding.

This fund is allocated to schools via a formula that includes:

FSM children receive £1455 per financial year

Service children receive £335 per financial year

Children in Care or who have recently left care receive £2530 per financial year

Having researched best practice with the use of this funding we have considered the research carried out by Education Endowment Foundation, Ofsted guidance, National College of School Leadership documents and other sources. These findings have been used to allocate the money in the following way:
