Extended Services

What is Extended Services?

In 2005 the government set out a core offer of Extended Services which it expects all children and families will be able to access at, or through, their local school.  The 5 services are:

  1. High quality 8am – 6pm childcare (provided on-site or through local providers).  Costs vary according to the type of provision.  This is all year provision and can include Breakfast, Afterschool and Holiday clubs and childminding services.
  2.  A varied menu of activities, including study support – such as homework clubs, sports, music, tuition, arts and crafts, visits to museums, business and enterprise activities.
  3. Parenting support – including courses, information sessions and family learning activities.
  4. Community access.  This includes access to adult learning programmes.
  5. Swift and easy access to a wide range of specialist support services.

Where children have additional unmet needs the school can access additional support.

Extended School:  Signposting Services to Parents

At Velmead we have very high regard for the role that childminders and other providers of childcare play in supporting the well-being of our children.

Many of our parents need childcare that they can rely upon, both in and out of term time. We currently have:

  • A daily ‘Breakfast Club’ – from 7.45am until the start of school (term time only) – this is run by SCL - information available from our website or by contacting them direct
  • After School  Childcare - from 3.20pm until 6pm during term time.
  • Holiday care (and some INSET days) provided by SCL – information available from our website or by contacting them directly

In addition, the Vine Church Adventurers run activities at the school on Friday evenings and at weekends. The contact is :

We don’t maintain a list of childminders or make personal recommendations.

However, we do recommend that parents contact Hampshire Children’s Information Service:
